WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE!

Osallisuuden aika ry, in english "Time to participate", is an association which main purpose is to increase involvement of former service users of child protective services and professionals of social services. Two key goals are to develop social services as an equal partnership with service users and professionals, and to increase cooperative way of working in child protecting services.

HISTORY

The association of Osallisuuden aika was founded in April 2014 from the roots of group called the Young Developers. The Young Developers group started as an expert group by experience in 2011. In November 2012 the Young Developers was awarded the Finnish National Democracy Award, which was an important recognition of the group’s development and participation work.

The youth who work in our association are former service users of child protective services. The youth have for example been giving speeches and lectures together with professionals of social services in multiple conferences, they have been teaching new social workers in University of Helsinki and in a spirit of co-reserching method they have participated many different work groups that develop new, better functional social services. When we develop social services that really does work, it saves money in a long run.

THE METHOD OF CO-RESEARCHING

The method of co-researching is the main method that we use in our association. This method is based on the systemic innovation model formulated by Pasi Pohjola and Juha Koivisto (2013), where development is seen as a networking process, an interaction by various actors and elements, and as unlinear. Former service users, young people, work as an equal relationship with different professionals, students and researchers.

The principles of the method are acting within a relationship, voluntary participation, empowerment, equal and open expertise, trust, cooperation and co-planning, influencing and ethics (Kati Palsanen, 2013). This method makes our association special and unique.
